To Our Community:
The California Association of Nonprofits is pleased to announce that Geoff Green, currently the CEO of the Santa Barbara City College Foundation and a long-time member of the CalNonprofits board, has been chosen as our next CEO. He will assume his new role beginning January 1, 2024 and Jan Masaoka, current CEO, will continue to lead the organization through the end of the year.
Geoff’s appointment comes following an in-depth planning process and executive search led by the CalNonprofits board. Geoff’s leadership and development experience along with his deep commitment to CalNonprofits, its members, and the sector at large made him the right choice to lead CalNonprofits.
“The nonprofit community is at a crossroads, given the changing environment these past few years,” said Joel Roberts, CalNonprofits’ board chair. “We on the board are excited that in Geoff we have selected a strong leader with a bold fresh vision that will empower California’s nonprofit organizations into the future. We look forward to Geoff taking the lead on our critical policy work, robust educational programming, and deep partnerships with government, philanthropy and the state’s nonprofit sector. And we are also deeply grateful to outgoing CEO Jan Masaoka for the significant strides CalNonprofits has made under her leadership these past 11 years.”
During his nearly nine years at the Santa Barbara City College Foundation, Geoff raised millions of dollars, and is credited with leading the cultivation of the largest gift to community colleges in U.S. history. He also pioneered several valued programs, including one of the nation’s most ambitious College Promise efforts to provide free tuition, books, and supplies for all local students. He has been a leader in statewide policy matters related to community colleges and in local nonprofit community-building and policy work.
In addition to his work and achievements at the SBCC Foundation, and before that as Executive Director of the Fund for Santa Barbara, Geoff has a strong history with CalNonprofits. He is a former board chair, has served on its policy committee, acted as treasurer, and has been an instrumental policy partner for many issues taken on by the organization, including the formation of the California Assembly Select Committee on the Nonprofit Sector. Geoff’s personal commitment to the policy and community goals of CalNonprofits and our members has long been demonstrated in action. He has been a strong community voice for our work in the California legislature, the court system, for corporate accountability in fundraising platforms, and in philanthropic reform.
“Nonprofits have long been at the leading edge in advocating for justice, equity, health, opportunity, and sustainability in our communities,” Green said, “and CalNonprofits has been an indispensable partner in building and leveraging the power of the nonprofit sector. I look forward to leading that work alongside our members, board of directors, staff, lawmakers, and allies.”
“I jumped with delight when I learned that Geoff had been chosen as the next CalNonprofits CEO,” said current CEO Jan Masaoka. “When I reflect on the remarkable nonprofit leaders that serve on our board of directors, clearly they set out to make a strategic, smart choice, and they have done exactly that.”
We’re excited for this next chapter of our alliance and we thank you all for your continued interest and support. Stay tuned, there will certainly be more to come!
Sincerely,
Joel Roberts, Chair, CalNonprofits Board of Directors
Jan Masaoka, CEO
